Dr Susan Mboya joined The Coca-Cola Company in September 2008 as General Manager:
Franchise at Coca-Cola South Africa. Before that she was the Global Marketing Director
for Oral B Brushing at Procter and Gamble in Cincinnati, USA. Her illustrious career
at Procter and Gamble started in 1995 after she had obtained her Masters and PhD
degrees in Industrial Pharmacy from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston,
USA. She obtained her first degree, a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, from the
University of Connecticut, USA.
Susan started her 13-year career at Procter and Gamble as Product Development Manager
in East Africa, and soon progressed to a Brand Manager position on Always Brand
within a short space of time. In 1998 she moved to Minneapolis to become Customer
Team Marketing Manager for the Target Marketing Customer Team. Subsequently she
had other positions of increasing responsibility within the company, including being
Brand Manager of the Puffs Brand in North America.
In 2003 Susan became the first person from Procter and Gamble to be inducted into
the American Advertising Federations Hall of Achievement, an award that is reserved
for talented individuals in the advertising industry. During the same year, Susan
was also awarded the Jack Averett Community Spirit Award by the American Advertising
Federation in recognition of her community outreach efforts, and she was also named
Ebony Magazine’s Marketer of the Year in 2004. Susan is also the President and Founder
of the Zawadi Africa Educational Fund (Zawadi meaning "gift" in Swahili),
a non-profit organization that benefits bright young women from disadvantaged backgrounds
with scholarships at top colleges in the United States of America.
In her previous role as the Associate Director for African American Business Development,
Susan led the creation of the African American MBDO, a multinational team responsible
for the development and execution of an African American marketing initiative strategy
for the Procter and Gamble portfolio of brands. In 2005, Susan became the Managing
Director on Pampers Brand, and in April 2007 she became the Global Marketing Director
on Oral B and remained in that position until she joined The Coca-Cola Company late
last year.
